Our customers have filled us in on their favorite surf spots whilst in Auckland! Don’t tell them we let the secret out!
This spot would be the most well known spot on the list. Anchor bay is quite short and is perfect for beginner surfers – keep an eye on the surf report for a ripper day out East. If the surf isn’t too great there you can always visit Tawharanui for camping, diving, fishing, mountain biking and bird watching.
This is SO close to the airport, and us, and has black sand that a lot of you wouldn’t have seen before! Bring your jandals (flip flops, sandals, whatever!) because that black sand on a sunny day will scorch your little toes! The waves here are a bit rough and prone to dangerous rips – experts will love it, beginner’s stick to the beautiful views and the delicious, local fish and chips.
A quick drive from the world-wide renowned Muriwai beach, this comes with the hollow waves that the West Coast is loved for, without the crowds. The surf here is suitable for intermediate and pro surfers. Be sure to hang around until the sun sets, it is absolutely beautiful and your other half will thank you for it!
Yet another spot very close to Muriwai, this little popular spot is suitable for everyone! While the northern edge of the beach offers some rippers, the rest of the beach is good for families, children and beginner surfers! A lot of our customers have ridden their first wave here, lets see if we can add you to that list!
This beach is not for the faint hearted, with waves ripping from left, right and center there is surf suitable for you lefties too! Now you do have to follow a sturdy gravel road for quite some time to get out here, but our ripper rental cars will get you through!
